Rureza lets everyone in the household log wages, bills and shopping from their own phone. Entries sort into categories, monthly totals update automatically, and you can see what is left before payday. Set up takes about ten minutes.
Get in touchAbout Rureza
Rureza started in Bristol in 2013, in a rented room on Stokes Croft with two desks and one shared spreadsheet. The founders had spent years watching friends and relatives try to keep track of family money using a notebook, a bank statement and a good deal of guesswork. One partner paid the mortgage, the other covered food and school costs, and nobody could say with confidence where the rest had gone at the end of the month.
The first version of the app did very little. It let two adults record an income or an expense, give it a category and see a monthly total. That was enough to show us what households needed: a shared view that both partners could trust, without a finance degree to read it.
Growth was slow and mostly came from recommendations. Over 13 years the team has grown from two people to 13, and we have worked with 845 families, which is roughly 65 new households each year. Across all of them we have completed 1,184 jobs, whether that meant setting up a household budget, adjusting categories after a change of circumstances or helping someone move their records from another tool. Of everyone we have helped, 328 clients came back for a second job, usually after a new baby, a house move or a change of work.
We now offer 12 services around the app and work with households across 7 areas in and around Bristol. We reply to most requests within about an hour during opening hours, because a question about money tends to be urgent for the person asking it.

Our mission is simple to state. We want every household to be able to see what comes in, what goes out and what is left, without needing to ask anyone for help. A family should be able to open the app on a bus, add a purchase in under ten seconds and move on with their day.
Our vision is a calmer relationship with money. We do not promise that an app will make anyone richer. We do think that a clear record removes a lot of arguments, and that people make steadier choices when the numbers are in front of them rather than in their heads.
The first value is plain speaking. Categories are named the way people say them, such as groceries, childcare, fuel and utilities, not in accounting terms. The second is privacy. Your records belong to your household, we do not sell them, and we explain in ordinary language what is stored and why. The third is honesty about limits. Rureza is a tracking tool. It does not give investment advice, and we tell clients so at the start.
The fourth value is patience. Many people come to us after months of avoiding their bank statements, and some feel embarrassed. We start from wherever they are, and nobody is asked to justify a past purchase.
Thirteen years of daily use have taught us which features matter. Shared accounts for couples, separate pots for children's costs, recurring bills with reminders and a monthly summary that fits on one screen are all things clients asked for repeatedly. Features that looked impressive but went unused were removed. We test every release on real devices, from recent phones to older models still in use in many homes, and we keep a log of every change so that clients can see what is different after an update.
Our staff come from software development, customer support and household finance advice. They keep up with changes to UK benefits, tax-year dates and common bill cycles, so that the default categories and reminders match how households in Britain really pay for things.

Services and prices

Why families use Rureza
Rureza has been built in Bristol since 2013 by a team of 13 people. Over that time we have worked with 845 households and completed 1,184 setups and reviews. The points below describe what the app does and how we support it, in plain terms.
Up to six family members can log into the same budget from their own phones. Each person sees the shared totals, while personal categories can be set to private. A partner who pays the energy bill and a teenager with a part-time wage both appear in the same monthly picture, without anyone passing a spreadsheet back and forth.
Adding a purchase takes three taps: amount, category, save. Recent categories and typical amounts are suggested, so a weekly supermarket shop or a bus pass does not need retyping. Short entry time matters because expenses that are logged days later tend to be forgotten or guessed.
The app starts with 18 standard categories such as rent, council tax, groceries and school costs. You can rename, merge or delete any of them. A household that pays for a childminder or a monthly train season ticket can add exactly those lines instead of squeezing them into "Other".
Rent, broadband, insurance and subscriptions can be set to repeat weekly, monthly or yearly. The app posts them on the right date and shows upcoming payments for the next 30 days. This helps you spot a tight week before it arrives, particularly when several direct debits fall close together.
At the end of each month the app builds a one-page summary: income, spending by category, and the difference from the previous month. Figures are shown in pounds sterling. You can export the summary as a PDF or CSV file if you want to share it with a partner or keep a record.
Set a goal such as a £1,200 holiday fund or a £500 boiler service reserve, add a date, and the app works out the monthly amount needed. Progress is shown as a simple bar. There is no pressure and no scoring, only a clear number you can adjust whenever your circumstances change.
Give any category a monthly limit and the app sends one notification at 80% and another at 100%. You choose whether alerts go to the whole household or only to you. Notifications can be switched off per category, so a limit on takeaways does not interrupt you about the rent.
Data is encrypted on the phone and during transfer, and the app can be locked with a PIN, fingerprint or face recognition. We do not sell household data and we do not show third-party advertising. You can export or delete your account from the settings screen at any time, without contacting anyone.
You can record spending on a train, in a basement shop or abroad with no signal. Entries are stored on the phone and merged into the shared budget once the connection returns. If two people edit at the same time, both entries are kept and flagged so nothing is silently overwritten.
Our typical reply time to a support request is one hour during opening hours: Monday to Friday 08:30 to 17:30 and Saturday 09:30 to 17:00. Questions are answered by the Bristol team that maintains the app, not by a script. Of the households we have worked with, 328 came back for a second review or setup.
The help pages explain each feature step by step, with screenshots and no jargon. If you would rather talk it through, we offer a setup call that covers importing your current figures and arranging categories. Our clients come from seven areas in and around Bristol, so examples reflect local costs such as parking permits and council tax bands.

How to find us: the office is on Stokes Croft in Bristol, on the street itself rather than in a side lane, so the house number is the easiest guide. Open the location in a map
